One of the basic points of YASYT Robotics is the User Experience, because if we are not able to put the user at the centre of our vision, it will be very difficult for us to achieve their satisfaction.
It’s for this reason that we are creating our own YUX4R, (YASYT User Experience for Robots) methodology, which is aimed to generate the following feelings when interacting (by voice, picture, or body language) with a SAR robot:
- I felt comfortable at all times
- I communicated what I wanted to communicate
- I felt that the robot understood me
- I understood the robot’s answers
- I understood the robot’s questions
- I felt the robot understood my answers
- The interaction with the robot fulfilled my expectations.
And in short, my experience with the robot was definitely positive and I would repeat it.
Our methodology focuses on 4 basic axes:

In the first axe, it is essential for us to develop an in-depth understanding of users and their environment. For this purpose, interviews and focus group sessions are carried out, both with people from the profile of expected users, and with experts and professionals, in order to know the expectations, needs and problems of the users. Observations of the processes in which the robot must act, are also made under real conditions. The objective is to identify the best opportunities for interaction, as well as possible barriers that could make interrelation difficult.
Effectiveness refers to the capacity of an action to result in a set objective. Our methodology analyzes 8 effectiveness variables such as Presentation and context, Understanding, Adaptation or UTILITY.
Efficiency refers to the capacity to do things well in terms of quality, results, times, etc. Our methodology analyzes 16 efficiency variables such as Clarity, Robot learning, Orientation, Response time, etc.
Finally, the axis of feelings includes the mood or emotional disposition that is generated as a result of the interaction with the robot.
Our methodology analyzes 9 efficiency variables such as Security, Trust, Satisfaction, Aesthetics, etc.
We are working on the 33 indicators of our methodology, analyzing its application to the 4 basic functions of interrelation of the Pepper robot:
- Conversational
- Textual and Graphic
- Gestual
- Light
Currently, we are working on the development of an objective quantification method that allows us to systematically assess the level of excellence of all the functionalities that are developed.
